Calaveras Big Trees State Park is home to the giant sequoias. This is a great rest stop, with picnic areas and miles of hiking to enjoy while passing through. You will find this stop on SR-4 to Monitor Pass on State Route 89.
SR 50 travels through South Lake Tahoe and then connects to highway 395 to Mammoth Lakes. Stop for lunch at one of the cafes, or enjoy a picnic out on one of the numerous public beaches.
If you prefer take major highways to get to highway 395 from Highway 80, traveling through Reno will allow for a plethora of amenities, cheaper gas, and entertaining casinos.
Bodie is an original mining town from the late 1800’s. What’s left today is a town frozen in time in a state of “arrested decay” and is maintained by the California State Parks System. Located just outside Bridgeport on highway 395, approximately 13 miles east. Road is open spring through fall.
